Learn how to slow down
Feel like your thoughts in your head are going at a million miles per hour? Had a bad day at work and keep replaying over events?  Once your get home, switch off those annoying thoughts and start to engage in activities that will help you to get relaxed.  You know what works best for you to help you relax.

It’s the quality of your sleep that counts
Over time it seems that due to our hectic lifestyle we don’t even have time to sleep well.  It’s more important to get high quality sleep than to get hours and hours of sleep.  As we sleep, the body goes through various stages of sleep ie. REM and non REM stages, and each night, we go through multiple sleep cycles per night.  Getting high quality sleep means sleeping through the night without being interrupted.

Avoid liquids before bedtime
If you drink too much water or liquids just before you go to bed, you will find yourself making frequent trips to the bathroom.  Have enough water to keep hydrated but don’t over do it.

Avoid sugary food before bedtime
Sugary foods can hype you up and raise your blood sugar.  It is best to avoid them before you go to bed.  Changes in your blood sugar level during the night may also disturb your sleep during the night.

Listen to relaxation CDs
Listen to soothing relaxation or meditation CD’s. Take your mind to another place to hear the sound of the waves, to watch a stunning sunset or to wander through a beautiful forest.  Lull yourself into a peaceful sleep with the relaxing sights and sounds of nature.  All in the comfort of your bedroom.
